The catheter system for continuous measurement of central venous oxygen saturation and/or its local concentration in injected substances comprises a fiberoptic probe and means for releasably fixing it in the catheter so that a specified distance is maintained between the end of the catheter and the end of the fiberoptic probe. An Independent claim is also included for a light source and measurement unit with the proposed catheter system.
