OIL SOLUBLE FRICTION INCREASING ADDITIVES FOR POWER TRANSMISSION FLUIDS

A method of increasing the static coefficient of friction of an oleaginous c omposition, such as an ATF, comprising adding to a major portion of an oil of lubricating viscosity a friction increasing amount of a n oil soluble friction increasing reaction product compr ising (a) an oil soluble substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, branc hed hydrocarbyl group containing from about 12 to about 50 total carbon atoms, (b) a linking group, and (c) a nitrogen-containing polar group , wherein the polar group contains at least one nitrogen atom and, optionally, contains at least one atom selected from the group consisti ng of boron, oxygen and sulfur atoms, and wherein the po lar group is linked to the branched hydrocarbyl group through the linking group.
