PURPOSE: A heater core for an air conditioner of an automobile and a method for controlling heating using the same are provided to improve heating efficiency by switching flowing route of coolant to a route between a U-turn flow type and unidirectional flow type for efficient heating depending on temperature of coolant. CONSTITUTION: A heater core(100) includes a first tank(110) having an inside divided into a first chamber(111) and a second chamber(112); a second tank(120) arranged to be lined up with the first tank, and having a single space formed therein; a plurality of tubes(130) having both ends connected with the fist tank and the second tank, respectively; radiating fins(140) installed between the tubes; a coolant inlet channel comprising a first inlet channel(151) and a second inlet channel(152) connected with the first chamber and the second chamber of the first tank, respectively; a coolant discharge channel formed by mergence of a first discharge channel(161) connected with the second tank, and a second discharge channel(162) connected with the second chamber of the first tank; and a valve unit selectively opening and closing the second inlet channel and selectively opening the first discharge channel and the second discharge channel to be interlocked with the opening and closing of the second inlet channel.
