PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging system which can image a high SNR image for the whole of a desired imaging area in a high SNR imaging method using a plurality of surface coils. SOLUTION: Any of a size, a number, or placement of a plurality of surface coils is determined by a procedure to calculate SNR (signal to noise ratio) distribution of the desired imaging area. When surface coils are to be placed to surround a subject in equal directions, influence of interconnection between coils is eliminated to an extent to reduce Q valve of a coil without using a means to shorten coil width so that a gap between neighboring coils is widened to make interaction zero even between neighboring coils.
