PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium for filtering liquid with a prolonged life which filters a machining liquid containing chips with a relatively coarse particle diameter produced from a work to be cut. SOLUTION: The filter medium is formed by integration of the filter medium layer and a support layer. The filter medium layer contains fibrillated organic fibers of <0.5-5mass% with a fiber diameter of≤1μm and organic fibers with a fiber diameter of≥1μm, and a part or the whole of the organic fibers with a fiber diameter of≥1μm is treated with fibrous organic binder. This medium layer has an average void diameter of 10-50μm and a basis weight of 5-50g/m<SP>2</SP>. The support layer is composed of organic fibers with a fiber diameter of≥8μm containing at least one kind of synthetic fibers of polyolefin, polyamide, polyester, acryl, vinylon and vinyl chloride vinyl acetate. A part of the synthetic fiber contains at least one kind of fibrous organic binders of polyester, polyolefin, and vinyl chloride vinyl acetate.
