PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst exhibiting high activities in olefin polymerization, and capable of extremely reducing fouling generated in the polymerization by slurry polymerization. SOLUTION: An olefin polymer is produced by polymerizing or copolymerizing an olefin by using the catalyst comprising (a) a transition metal compound, (b) a modified clayey compound and (c) an organoaluminium compound. The modified clayey compound (b) is a reaction product of (b-1) a layered clayey compound with a protonic acid salt of (b-2) an amine compound represented by general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP><SB>3</SB>N (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>s are the same or different, and each a hydrogen atom or a 1-30C hydrocarbon group such as an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group or an aralkyl group, and at least one of R<SP>1</SP>is a≥21C hydrocarbon group).
