<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing system whereby a person can simply provides and reproduce inexpensive and abundant contents data without being restricted by time and place. <P>SOLUTION: The information providing system includes: a tuner section 102 for receiving a broadcast wave; compression sections 105, 112 for compressing contents data obtained from the received broadcast wave; a storage device 106 for storing contents data compressed by the compression sections 105, 112; an expansion section 113 for expanding the contents data stored in the storage device 106 to obtain a reproduction signal; an external output terminal 114 for outputting the reproduction signal to an output apparatus 300 for outputting the contents data; and an infrared ray data transmission reception section 107 for receiving a request signal comprising an optical signal from a mobile information terminal that can be carried, converting the compressed contents data stored in the storage device 106 into an optical signal, and transmitting the optical signal to the mobile information terminal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
