PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gap measuring device which can measure the gap between the tip of a projection and a surface which is in front of the tip of the projection and is opposed to the projection, precisely and easily. SOLUTION: A deflection sensor attaching member(200) is so set that the rear face (211) of a tip close contact portion (210) comes into close contact with the tip of the large projection (22) of a packing ring (20) of a steam turbine. A flexible board material (110) is fitted to its base part (220), and a strain gauge (120) is attached to the second side (112) of the board material (110). The teflon (R)-coated contact face (115) of the sliding touching portion (114) stretching obliquely deflecting and being curved of the second side (112) touches the bottom face (11) of the rotor (10) of the steam turbine. A computing unit (300) computes the distance between the bottom face of the rotor and the base part, from the output of the strain gauge and data on the relation between strain values stored beforehand and the distance values between the bottom face of the rotor and the base part, and subtracts the distance between the base part (220) and the rear face of the adhering portion from that value, to find the magnitude of the gap.
