PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical storage medium cartridge wherein a shutter for protecting an aperture for data reading/ writing formed in a container of the optical storage medium cartridge is not unnecessarily moved and protection of an optical storage and reproduction element can be satisfactorily performed, in the optical storage medium cartridge provided with the optical storage and reproduction element by which information is stored and/or reproduced by utilizing light. SOLUTION: The optical storage medium cartridge has a locking mechanism capable of holding the shutter and a lock releasing mechanism capable of releasing the holding of the shutter by the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism and the lock releasing mechanism are so disposed as to be shielded by an outer wall and/or the shutter of the container and not to be touched from the outside of the container and the holding of the shutter by the locking mechanism is released by the magnetic force as an attractive force operating on the lock releasing mechanism.
