The airbag (2) has a seamless continuous tube formed from a flexible and/or woven material such that the airbag displays an unstable cross section in its deflated state. The airbag is made gastight with a closing unit (4) for closing the free ends of the tube. The airbag when inflated maintains an original volume and an original length. The closing unit may be metal clamps that connect the airbag to a vehicle structure. An Independent claim is also included for a vehicle seat.
