PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably manufacture a tow prepreg having no fiber cut at the end part and including no bond with high width precision for a long time. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the tow prepreg comprises the process steps to first impregnate a reinforcing fiber strand 2 with a matrix resin, then thermally make the matrix resin sticking to the obtained tow prepreg low-viscous by passing the tow prepreg through the groove of a grooved heating drive roll 4 at a lower peripheral speed than the line speed of the tow prepreg and thereby adjust the tow prepreg to the specified width. After these steps, the matrix resin which is low-viscous by heating is thickened by cooling, while the tow prepreg is taken up by at least one grooved take-up roll 5 and thus the width of the tow prepreg is set. The manufacturing apparatus with the function to take up the tow prepreg has a width regulating part comprising the grooved heating drive roll 4 with a heating mechanism and the grooved take-up roll 5 consecutively arranged.
