PURPOSE: A structure capable of varying an area of a journal bearing is provided to enlarge the area of the journal bearing at a maximum load condition and to reduce the area of the journal bearing at a condition below the maximum load. CONSTITUTION: A crank shaft(10) is inserted into bearing caps(30,40) installed on a bearing beam(20). An eccentric section(11) is formed between the bearing caps(30,40). A connecting rod(60) coupled to a piston(50) is connected to the eccentric section(11). A main bearing(70) and an auxiliary bearing(80) are provided between the bearing caps(30,40) and the crank shaft(10). A push bar(90) is inserted into the bearing beam(20) such that the push bar(90) is horizontally moved under the control of a solenoid(100). Protrusions(93,94) formed with inclined surfaces(91,92) are inserted into holes(31,41) of the bearing caps(30,40).
