A light-filtering element (40, 40') for a display device is provided. The element (40, 40') includes at least one filter (44, 46, 48, 70, 74, 78) having a chamber (84) with a filtering fluid (50, 52, 54, 72, 76, 80, 96), the filtering fluid (50, 52, 54, 72, 76, 80, 96) selectively disposed in an optical path (14), and a liquid motion actuator (62, 92, 94) selectively configured to move the filtering fluid (50, 52, 54, 72, 76, 80, 96) substantially into and out of the optical path (14).
