PURPOSE: A real-time zone-based automatic group service method in a public wireless LAN is provided to embody a real-time zone group service by enabling the automatic creation, registration, and withdrawal of a zone group so that a public wireless LAN user can smoothly exchange information with another connected user at the same zone using his location information. CONSTITUTION: A real-time zone-based automatic group service system manages an AP(Access Point) information table and a subscriber location information table, and comprises a location information server to provide user location information. Whenever a public wireless LAN user is connected to a wireless LAN, new information is added to the tables. At this moment, the location information server delivers the added subscriber location information to a zone-based group server. The zone-based group server creates a new zone group using the delivered information in case that an associated AP or a group corresponding to 'Hotspot' doesn't exist. If the associated AP or group exists, the zone-based group server registers the subscriber in the group. If the subscriber moves his location, the zone-based group server deletes him from the previous group and registers him in a new group.
