PURPOSE: A solid wire for arc welding work is provided to easily feed solid wires by sufficiently coating MoS2, BN or a mixture thereof on a surface of a solid wire on which a copper is not coated. CONSTITUTION: A solid wire used for arc welding work includes a flat section formed on a surface of the solid wire. The flat section has the Vickers hardness of about 115 to 310 and a mean roughness of about 0.01 to 30 micrometer. A surface area rate of a surface lubricant pool is about 15 to 88%. At least one of MoS2, BN and a mixture thereof is coated on a surface of the solid wire by 0.002 to 0.40g/m2. The surface lubricant pool of the solid wire is recessed without forming lubricant therein so that MoS2, BN or the mixture thereof is sufficiently filled in the surface lubricant pool, thereby improving a feeding rate of the solid wires.
