PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tricyclic-type, heterocyclic derivative compound which is useful as medicines and is expressed by general formula (I), and to provide a medicine having the compound as an effective component. SOLUTION: The medicine contains as an effective component a tricyclic-type, heterocyclic derivative compound expressed by general formula (I) and a pharmaceutically permissible salt thereof. In general formula (I), W, X and Y are each a carbon or nitrogen atom; U and Z are each CR<SP>2</SP>, NR<SP>13</SP>, a nitrogen-, oxygen-, sulfur-atom or the like; A ring is a carbon ring or a heterocyclic ring; R<SP>1</SP>is alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, NR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>, OR<SP>6</SP>or the like; and R<SP>3</SP>is a carbon ring or a heterocyclic ring. The compound expressed by general formula (I) has an antagonistic action of a corticotropine releasing-factor receptor, so the compound is useful for prevention and/or cure against depression, anxiolytic disorder, ingestive abnormality, psychogenic post-traumatic stress, digestive ulcer, irritable colon syndrome, Alzheimer disease, withdrawal symptom from a drug or alcohol, and so on.
