摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a apparatus for detecting parking space for improving detection accuracy in a parking space by accurately measuring distance to a close or distant obstacle from an own vehicle. SOLUTION: Distance to an obstacle is measured by an ultrasonic sensor 12, while moving a vehicle before parking the vehicle, a transmission period control section 21 at an ultrasonic sensor control section 2 controls the transmission time interval of ultrasonic pulses according to measurement distance, and a transmission period is reduced as distance to the obstacle is shorter. Additionally, a transmission intensity control section 22 of the ultrasonic sensor control section 2 controls the transmission output of ultrasonic pulses according to measurement distance; and transmission output is made weaker, the shorter the distance to the obstacle is. Additionally, a vehicle speed control section 3 controls a speed V in the own vehicle and performs control so that sampling distance does not become too large and so that the distance becomes constant.
