PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in damping capacity of a viscous body in a damper for absorbing vibrational energy of an earthquake. SOLUTION: This damper 1 is composed of a linear motion means 3 for making linear motion, a rotary motion converting means 4 for converting the linear motion of the linear motion means into rotary motion, a viscosity damping means 6 rotated by the rotary motion converting means and damping kinetic energy by viscous resistance of the viscous body and a device body 2 for supporting the respective means. A part of a damping quantity of the whole damping device is shared by the rotary motion converting means 4 so as not to reduce damping capacity of the viscosity damping means. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
