PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a chitin-chitosan-like material by using a microorganism. SOLUTION: The chitin-chitosan-like material is produced by a method comprising a step for immobilizing the microorganism having ability for producing the chitin-chitosan-like material by using an organic acid as a carbon source on a carrier to provide the immobilized microorganism, and a step for culturing the immobilized microorganism. A porous body of a polyvinyl alcohol, a porous body of a polypropylene or a porous body of a ceramic is preferable as the carrier. A microorganism belonging to the genus Citrobacter is preferably used as the microorganism. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
