The procedure for the applying of a fluid medium on a moving surface (11) entails the use of a doctor device (14) which has a pressure chamber extending perpendicularly to the direction of movement and parallel to the surface. The moving surface is pre-wetted with pre-wetting substance before the entry into the pressure chamber. The surface is pre-wetted pressure-less or with an overpressure which is less than that in the pressure chamber. The pre-wetting may be carried out by spraying. An Independent claim is included for a system for the applying of a fluid medium onto a moving surface and especially onto a revolving drum (13) and which includes a pre-wetting chamber (22) or pre-wetting area before the pressure chamber with regard to the surface's direction of movement.
