The disc brake for a motor vehicle comprises a brake calliper (13) supported on a guard (17) which is rigidly connected to an axle component (5) upon which sits a bearing supporting a brake disc hub with at least one brake disc (7). The guard extends radially downwards at least as far as the circumference (16) of the brake disc and may extend beyond the circumference by a strip-form lower edge (17b). A space exists between the guard and inner face of the brake disc.
