PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for regenerating photoreceptor substrates, which method makes a cost reduction and effective utilization of resources possible by efficiently removing the photosensitive layers of the photoreceptors, thereby regenerating the photoreceptor substrates and recycling the photoreceptor substrates and the photoreceptors of a low cost by utilizing the substrates obtained by this regenerating method. SOLUTION: The method for regenerating the cylindrical metallic substrates of the photoreceptors regenerates the cylindrical metallic substrates of the photoreceptors by dividing the photoreceptors composed of the organic series photoreceptors formed on the cylindrical metallic substrates and layers containing a thermosetting resin in part thereof in their outer peripheral surface and axial directions, and by cleaning the photoreceptors by using rectilinear brushes of which the axial centers over the entire part are freely aligned to the materials to be cleaned, thereby cleaning away the entire layer of the photoreceptors. The rectilinear brush surfaces are shaped to the same shape as the shape of the outer peripheral surfaces of the cylindrical metal substrates by using brush dressers of the same shape as the shape of the cylindrical metal substrates by the same operation as that of the method for cleaning the photoreceptors prior to the cleaning.
