PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for diagnosing cancer, determining the degree of malignancy in cancer, and determining the convalescence of a patient. SOLUTION: A method is provided for measuring IL-1ra and IL-6 concentration in a sample originating from a patient, and diagnosing cancer, determining the degree of malignance in cancer, and objectively determining the convalescence of the patient based on the ratio of IL-1ra to IL-6 concentration.
