PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration damping device capable of effectively improving vibration reduction in an internal combustion engine by generating torque which cancels vibration with an actuator as well as an effect by anti-resonance of a vibration system. SOLUTION: The vibration damping device is provided with a driving force transmission mechanism for transmitting the rotational driving force of a crankshaft 6 connected with a flywheel 10, and a sub inertial mass body which is rotated by the driving force transmission mechanism and generates an inertial force. The vibration system is formed with an elastic body given to the driving force transmitting mechanism, and in the vibration damping device of the internal combustion engine using the anti-resonance of the vibration system, either a part of the sub inertial mass body or sub inertial mass body serves as an actuator which generates or absorbs the driving force. Moreover, an actuator driving torque control means is also provided for changing anti-resonance frequency or damping force by controlling the driving torque of the actuator according to the operating condition of the internal combustion engine.
