<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system where the flexibility for the installation position of an optical fiber amplifier can be improved. <P>SOLUTION: First stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>and second stimulation light λ<SB>p2</SB>outputted from an stimulation light source 61 are transmitted by an optical fiber transmission line for signal light 41. At the time of transmission, first stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>is Raman-amplified, and Raman-amplified first stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>is supplied to the optical fiber amplifier 31. First stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>and the second stimulation light λ<SB>p2</SB>outputted from an stimulation light source 62 are transmitted by an optical fiber transmission line for stimulation light 71. At the time of transmission, first stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>is Raman-amplified, and the Raman-amplified first stimulation light λ<SB>p1</SB>is supplied to the optical fiber amplifier 31.
