<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a method has not been established yet to suppress dark spots and deformation and breakdown of an element by exterior load in an organic electroluminescent element. <P>SOLUTION: As for glass composition for protecting the electroluminescent element, in the organic electroluminescent element having a protection part at the transparent or translucent substrate fringe, or in the organic electroluminescent element, of which the whole face of the substrate is covered by the protection part, that protection part is glass or glass composite containing glass. Furthermore, the glass and the glass composite as the base material have a difference of the average coefficient of linear thermal expansion from room temperature at about 300°C of 10×10<SP>-7</SP>/°C or less, and have the film thickness of 5-5,000 μm, the water resistance of 0.05 g/cm<SP>2</SP>or less, and the fractural strength of 500 kgf/cm<SP>2</SP>or more. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
