PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing device using iterative decoding which can demodulate data correctly even when a burst error signal is included in a reproduced signal, and can obtain effect of error correction by iterative decoding sufficiently even for the burst error signal. SOLUTION: In the recording and reproducing device which records and reproduces a recording signal in which data are encoded by convolution codes through a partial response channel and performs the reproducing of the data from the reproduced signal by using iterative decoding using likelihood information, the data recording and reproducing device is attained by a recording and reproducing device which is characterized by being provided with a burst error detecting means for detecting a burst error part in the reproduced signal and a replacement means for replacing sampled values included in the error part to prescribed values according to the detected result of the detecting means.
