PURPOSE: A structure for supporting a piston of a reciprocating compressor is provided to improve efficiency by preventing increase of frictional force due to side force acting in a direction perpendicular to longitudinal direction of the piston. CONSTITUTION: A compression unit comprises a cylinder formed integrally with a front frame; a piston supported by a supporting member(160) coupled to a mover(33) of a reciprocating motor by bolts, and reciprocating in a compression space of the cylinder; a suction valve mounted to a front end of the piston, and opening and closing a suction channel of the piston to restrict suction of gas; and a discharge valve assembly mounted to a discharge side of the cylinder, and opening and closing the compression space to restrict discharge of compressed gas. The supporting member is formed as a disk, and comprises a guiding plate(161) having a mounting part(161a) formed on a center thereof, and stepped to allow the piston to be mounted thereto and move in a direction perpendicular to longitudinal direction; and a supporting plate(162) fixed closely to the guiding plate by bolts to allow a connecting part(142a) of the piston to be mounted to the mounting part, and to prevent the piston from freely moving in longitudinal direction.
