An immunogenic orthopoxvirus antigen (I) comprising one of the peptides (P1) having sequences chosen from 50 amino acid sequences or their variants comprising one or more additions, insertions, substitutions and/or deletions as compared to the respective (P1) and where the immunogenic activity of the variant is substantially equal to the activity of the respective unmodified (P1), is new.
