PURPOSE: A method for changing torque on embodying cylinder deactivation of an engine is provided to minimize excessive fluctuation of torque. CONSTITUTION: A method includes the steps of: a step(110) starting with cylinder deactivation operating state and changing operation into WOT(Wide Open Throttle) area; a step(120) changing operation from the WOT area to lean condition; a step(130) delaying spark timing under same RPM and air-fuel ratio; a step(140) instantaneously changing into fixed air-fuel ratio under the same RPM, and instantaneously advancing the spark timing; and a step(150) changing into different air-fuel ratio operating condition, and completing cylinder deactivation operation change. Actual performance is improved and exhaust gas is reduced by smoothly applying an engine cylinder deactivation mechanism improving fuel economy of a vehicle. Excessive fluctuation of torque is minimized to improve convenience of driving. The cylinder deactivation mechanism is smoothly utilized without an additional system to reduce actual manufacturing cost.
