Acrylic acid production by passing a gas comprising propane, oxygen, steam and optionally an inert gas over a catalyst comprising molybdenum (Mo), vanadium (V), tellurium (Te) or antimony (Sb), niobium (Nb), silicon (Si) and oxygen in a Mo:V:(Te or Sb):Nb:Si atomic ratio of 1:(0.006-1):(0.006-1):(0.006-1):(0-3.5) comprises using a propane/oxygen molar ratio of more than 0.5.
