<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the activity of noble metals carried on a photocatalyst comprising a titanium oxide thin film having decomposing activity for chemical substances and various kinds of pollutants due to air pollution. <P>SOLUTION: The photocatalyst is prepared by depositing a platinum compound containing nitrogen on a titanium oxide thin film. The photocatalyst carries the platinum compound by 0.005 to 1 Pt/Ti ratio and has ≥0.5 nitrogen content in terms of N/Pt in the platinum compound.
