A nonaqueous electrolyte which comprises an ionic liquid represented by the following general formula (1) and having a melting point of 50°C or lower, a compound which is reductively decomposed at a nobler potential than the ionic liquid, and a lithium salt. (1) In the formula, R<1> to R<4> are the same or different and each represents C1-5 alkyl or alkoxyalkyl represented by R'-O-(CH2)n- (wherein R' represents methyl or ethyl and n is an integer of 1 to 4), provided that two of R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, and R<4> in combination may form a ring and that at least one of R<1> to R<4> is the alkoxyalkyl; X represents nitrogen or phosphorus; and Y represents a monovalent anion.
