A method for inscribing a data carrier card with different colored layers placed one over the other on at least one flat surface of the data carrier card, requires local removal of discrete colored layers by means of laser irradiation to expose other different colored layers lying under these colored layers. The laser irradiation device irradiates the colored layer(s) to be removed with a pulse power density of 0.05 to 0.5 W/mu m squared.
