Measurement of tread profile depths, at vehicle pneumatic tires, using a structured woven fabric laid on road surface with conductive/insulating fibers over electrical contacts

To measure the wear of a tire tread, at a pneumatic vehicle tire, a woven fabric is laid over the road surface composed of conductive and insulating fibers woven together. The weight of the tire presses the conductive fibers against a lower electrical contact to give a measure of the tire tread profile depth. To prevent faults i.e. from creep currents in wet weather, a higher current is used e.g. 0.5 A while remaining below the protective voltage e.g. 12 V.
