<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make constant the quality of prints finished by means of a plurality of print engines. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of print engines 12-15 are connected with a system controller 16. A gray pattern 31 is test printed by each print engine 12-15. Density of the gray pattern 31 in a test print 30 is measured by means of a densitometer 24. Based on the difference between a target density and a measured density, a density correction value is determined for each color at a density correction value operating section 25. A correction amount based on the variation in sensitivity characteristics of a recording material is read out and the target density is corrected based on that correction value. An impressing voltage of a thermal head is corrected at a density correcting section 28 based on the density correction value when printing is carried out. A variation in density based on the difference of print engines 12-15 is thereby corrected and the print quality is sustained at a substantially constant level among the print engines 12-15. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
