PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for the fact that the content confirmation of video images and system information by a display part such as a small LCD panel by an object (also a photographer)itself becomes difficult as a distance between the object and a camera increases at the time of "facing photographing" using a video recorder provided with a turnable display part. SOLUTION: The video recorder provided with an image pickup part comprises: a video display part; a turning mechanism for making the video display part turnable; a means for detecting that the display part is turned; a timing means; a means for measuring the distance between the image pickup part of the recorder and the object; and a means for controlling the display contents of the video display part corresponding to the distance when detecting that the video display part is turned.
