<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device having a structure in which the arrangement area of a pigtail fiber can be reduced when mounted on a circuit board. <P>SOLUTION: This light emitting device 1 has a fiber stub component 2, a grating chip 6, a semiconductor optical amplification element 3, a photodiode 4 and a mounting member 5. The fiber stub component 2 consists of a ferrule 22 and an optical fiber 21. The fiber stub component 2, the grating chip 6 and the semiconductor optical amplification element 3 are mounted on the mounting member 5 and are optically connected to one another. An optical resonator consists of a light reflection surface of the semiconductor optical amplification element 3 and a diffraction grating 23 belonging to the grating chip 6. According to such a configuration, the light emitting device 1 can provide laser light having a desired wavelength without using a pigtail optical fiber.
