COATED OPTICAL FIBER AND METHOD FOR REMOVING COATING OF THIS COATED OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber which can be removed of coatings for a long length without damaging the outside surface of an optical fiber and has no possibility of making the waste of coating resins remain on the surface of the optical fiber, and to provide a method for removing the coatings of the coated optical fiber. SOLUTION: The coated optical fiber has the optical fiber 3 having a core 1 and clad 2 essentially consisting of quartz glass and a primary coating layer 4 and secondary coating layer 5 successively disposed on the outer periphery of the optical fiber 3. Here, the coating layer 4 is formed to a thickness of 60 to 200μm. Also,the coating layer 4 is formed of such resin that the coating layer 4 swells (rate of swelling: 5 to 150%) when the coating layer is immersed for about 30 minutes in an organic solvent. The coating layer 5 is formed of a resin of 100 to 1,500 MPa in Young's modulus in order to remove the same in a cylindrical form. Also, the coating layer is formed to a thickness of 20 to 30μm.
