PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method for preventing burn-through or liquation even when a clearance between works is large or a welding target is deviated, and shield gas used therefor. SOLUTION: In performing MAG welding of ferritic stainless steel, mixed gas containing at least one of gaseous oxygen and gaseous carbon dioxide and argon gas and satisfying the expressions of (1) -0.5X+1≤Y≤-0.25X+6, (2) 0≤X≤9, and (3) 0≤Y as shield gas, where X is the concentration of gaseous carbon dioxide (vol.%), Y is the concentration of gaseous oxygen (vol.%).
