A false floor construction for a gravity filter bed comprises a rigid layer of foamed plastics sandwiched between two sheets 6, 7 of impervious plastics, and nozzles 2, for draining the filtrate and supplying reverse flow liquid or gas for cleaning, extending therethrough. The upper sheet 6 may be corrugated, the corrugations following straight or sinuous lines, or may present a lattice of spaced depressions (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). Nozzles 2 may be welded or screwed into place. Layers 5. 6, 7 may be welded or adhered together, or the layer 5 may be foamed in situ between sheets 6, 7 and remains adhered to them. Examples of suitable plastics are given. |
