PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting torque of work rolls of rolling mill is provided which performs accurate work roll grinding operation and improves quality of the work roll by continuously measuring torque of the grinding surface of the work roll during grinding of the work roll so that the measured torque is displayed on the screen. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for detecting torque of work roll of rolling mill, wherein the apparatus is applied to a work roll grinding machine comprising a grinding stone driving vector motor(3b), an inverter drive(5b), a grinding stone(2), a rolling driving servo motor, and a roll driving servo motor(8b), the apparatus comprises a sensor part installed on a work roll supporting plate (WRSP) to detect grinding positions of the work roll(1) rotated by the roll driving servo motors; a torque detection part for providing torque values for the grinding positions of the work roll after respectively detecting starting voltage and current of the grinding stone driving vector motor and calculating torque values based on the voltage and current for the grinding positions by the sensor part; and a torque display part for displaying the torque values of the grinding positions detected by the torque detection part on a screen, wherein the sensor part comprises reflectors(507a-507c) and a plural proximity sensors(509,510,511), and wherein the torque detection part comprises voltage detection part, voltage conversion part, comparison part, current detection part, current conversion part, torque calculation part, sensing signal conversion parts and operation part.
