PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersant less liable to cause hydrolysis in an alkaline atmosphere, giving a slurry free of a viscosity change and excellent in aging stability of viscosity even when the amount of the dispersant added is small, and excellent in various dispersing performances. SOLUTION: The dispersant comprises an alkylene oxide group-containing compound (A) represented by the formula: [R<SP>1</SP>-(R<SP>2</SP>O)<SB>m</SB>R<SP>3</SP>] and a copolymer (B) containing a carboxylic unsaturated monomer and a polyalkylene oxide oligomer represented by the formula: [R<SP>4</SP>CH=C(R<SP>5</SP>)-X-(R<SP>6</SP>O)<SB>n</SB>R<SP>7</SP>] as essential constitutional monomer units, wherein R<SP>1</SP>is an alkoxy, alkylphenoxy or the like; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkylene; R<SP>3</SP>is an alkyl, H or the like; m is an integer of 1-300; R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each H or an alkyl; X is -R<SP>8</SP>O-, -O-, -R<SP>9</SP>NHCOO-, -NHCOO- or -CONH-; R<SP>8</SP>and R<SP>9</SP>are each an alkylene, -Rh- or -Ph-R<SP>10</SP>-; Rh is phenylene; R<SP>10</SP>is an alkylene; R<SP>6</SP>is an alkylene; R<SP>7</SP>is H, an alkyl or the like; and n is an integer of 1-300.
