<p>An electric arc welder with a variable AC voltage input has a rectifier (14) providing DC to a driven high frequehcy boost stage (30). The boost stage (30)comprises an inductor (629 connected to first and second series output branches with respective primary windings (42,44) connected to respective capacitors (C1,C2).A high frequency switch (32)operated by a power factor control circuit (34) has an open condition charging the capacitors (C1,C2) by current through the primary windings (42,44) and discharching the inductor (62) and has a closed condition charging the inductor (62)and discharging the capacitors (C1,C2). The boost stage (30) has an AC output stage comprising the secondary winding (529 of a transformer (50) powered by current flow in the first and second primary windings (42,44). An output rectifier (100) converts said AC output a first DC voltage that is converted to a second DC voltage connected across the arc of a welding station (E,W).</p> |
