The slots 3 in the annular portion 2 of a shear plate are enlarged at their inlet ends, the enlargements 8 being located wholly beyond the area 7 swept by the rotary cutter. The inner ends of the slots form grooves 10 in the wall 9 at the junction of the portion 2 with the central portion 1 of the shear plate. In a modification, each slot has a circular enlargement near its inner end. In a further modification, the enlargement at the inlet end of each slot is formed by a widened, non-circular, part of the slot.</p> |
