Transfer belt

In a papermaking process a wet paper web (1) rests on a conveyer belt (2) as it feeds through a nip gap. The belt has a plastic layer (4) incorporating numerous holes (11) whose dimensions are chosen to blend with the plastic (4) elasticity and the pressure in the nip gap, such that the plastic layer is largely impermeable when in the nip gap. The dimension of the pores or holes (11) is varied in accordance with the thickness of the plastic layer. The top surface plastic layer (4) has a smooth surface when passing through the nip gap. The belt lower layer is formed of a woven web from threads which are mainly transverse to the direction of belt motion.
