PURPOSE: A dielectric material for a plasma display panel is provided to match in coefficient of thermal expansion with a front glass substrate and to suppress presence of residual bubbles in a dielectric layer as a fired film and reaction with an electrode so as to form the dielectric layer high in transparency without large bubbles left around the electrode. CONSTITUTION: In a dielectric material for a plasma display panel contains 80-100 mass % glass powder and 0-20 mass % ceramic powder. The glass powder consists essentially of, in mass percent, 3-25% BaO, 25-60% ZnO, 15-35% B2O3, 3-30% SiO2, 0.2-6% Li2O, and 0-1.5% Al2O3.
