摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stirling engine allowing accurate control of cooling capability while avoiding collision resulting from the disordered motion of a piston 1 and a displacer 2 by seizing the positions of them. SOLUTION: A reflecting shaft 33 is mounted on a sleeve 14 which reciprocates together with the piston 1. The reflecting surface of the reflecting shaft 33 is machined into an isosceles triangle which is gradually narrower as tending to the sleeve 14 and the reflection amount of a laser beam can be changed with the displacement of the piston 1. When the reciprocating motion of the piston 1 is started, the reflecting shaft 33 also reciprocates at the same stroke. Since a laser irradiation portion 31 and a laser receiving portion 3 are fixed at preset positions, the reflecting shaft 33 is only displaced relative to the laser irradiation portion 31 and the laser receiving portion 32 situated to be unmovable. Thus, by previously specifying the reflection amount of the beam and the position of the piston 1, the accurate position of the piton 1 can be specified in accordance with the reflection amount of the beam detected by the laser receiving portion 32.
