1,102,062. Automatic moisture control. H. MAHLO. Jan.27, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1964], No. 3540/65. Heading G3R. In a system for automatically controlling the moisture content of moving material, follow-up controlled means regulating the moisture content are controlled by intermediate error-actuated means having a response characteristic such as to produce a desired overall response characteristic. As shown, a signal dependent on the moisture content of moving textile material T is compared at 2 with a signal representing desired moisture content, and any difference causes a motor 3 to adjust to position of a potentiometer 4 having an exponential characteristic. The output voltage of potentiometer 4 is compared at 5 with the voltage of a tachometer generator 6 associated with a motor 8, and any difference is effective through a controller 7 to adjust the speed of motor 8 to correspond with the position of potentiometer 4. Motor 8 drives the textile material and its speed is changed in such sense as to correct the moisture content. The time constant of the system controlling motor 3 is longer than that controlling motor 8 and potentiometer 4 serves as a memory to maintain the speed of motor 8, if the moisture measuring section should fail, until a timer 10 resets potentiometer 4. Correction of moisture content by control of the temperature of a drying agent or by varying the flow of material, air or water instead of varying speed is referred to. Use of a mechanical or fluid-pressure link to the final control element is also referred to.
|
