PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation apparatus which enables high resolutions in a main scanning direction at a high-speed machine, and to provide an image formation method. SOLUTION: Image data which is binary data of 1,800 dpi is divided to every three bits (or every two bits), and inputted from an input part 11 to a gradation setting part 12 and a printing position control part 13. Image data of three bits is converted at the gradation setting part 12 and the printing position control part 13 to 8-bit gradation data and 2-bit attribute data, and inputted to a pulse width modulation part 15 altogether. Data of three bits is handled at a time, and therefore an operation clock can be 600 dpi both at the input side and at the output side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
